A retreat focused on therapists sharing knowledge, and learning in community.

Welcome to Tybee Island, Georgia!! Set on Georgia’s northernmost barrier island, this retreat location is the perfect backdrop for our weekend together. As you get closer to Tybee, the road takes you over rivers and marshes, supplying beautiful views. We will gather in a beach cottage that sleeps up to 14, only 4 blocks from the beach. Here, there is no major commercial development, no chain stores or restaurants, and no rush. You’ll be on “Tybee Time”.

The intention we’ve set for the weekend is to provide you with much-needed rest, connection, community, and laid back fun. This charming setting is paired with educational sessions that offer CEU’s for therapists. You may have noticed the “Cooperative” part of this retreat and wondered exactly what that means. This is a retreat for therapists, by therapists. What makes this retreat even more unique is that each attendee facilitates a portion of the gathering. From the organizer and coordinators, to the presentation facilitators- everyone will play a part in cooperating, to provide a communal retreat based on interdependence and collectivism. This idea may seem odd at first, but we hope this experience of allowing others to help you, and the ease that can create if we let it, will leave you being curious about other ways you could embrace community in your life. We’ve curated a fantastic schedule, with a mix of educational sessions, personal time, outings, and activities. And did we mention the cost is ALL- INCLUSIVE??? Too good to be true? No- not when high profit is not the goal. Part of the cooperation is pooling our financial and knowledge resources to access charming accommodations, incredible food, and engaging learning sessions, for a fraction of average retreat costs.

Once you register & pay your deposit (or initiate a payment plan), you will be sent a presenter application to complete for the education session you would like to present. If presenting is not your skillset, the form will ask you to share how you would like to equitably contribute.

Shark Tooth Hunt, August 2025, Tybee Island, GA

What are the outings and activities?

  • Shark Teeth! We will go by foot on a locally owned private shark tooth and fossil hunting tour.

  • Low country! This area is called the low country, and is a beautiful ecosystem of rivers and marshes that meet the sea. We will go on a boating trip to explore this unique habitat.

  • Savannah! We will offer transport for an optional outing to downtown Savannah for an afternoon. You will be free to explore the squares and riverfront on your own or with others.

  • Alone time! Yes, I consider alone time an activity- maybe the best one. If you choose to arrive on October 7, you will have unstructured time to spend with other early birds or on your own. We are 4 blocks from the beach and several restaurants and shops. The house also has a pool you are able to enjoy at any time.

Is this retreat for me?

If you have read this far & are still interested, that is the best indicator that this gathering is for you. Do you like to be in charge of yourself while also being in community? Do you like to do outdoor cat things & explore? Do you like to eat? We have been intentional about the setting- no high rise condos, chain restaurants or big box stores on the whole island. Just laid back old beach town vibes. Every part of the retreat is optional. Once you contribute your part of the cooperative, you can do as much or as little as you like. We are all about autonomy over here! We have also been intentional about the structure of this retreat. While Hiatus Wellness is acting as an organizer, there is otherwise no one “in charge”. This puts the communal & collective spirit of the gathering into real action. If you’d like to divest from the world & its power structures for a few days, we will see you on Tybee Island! We’re gathering up to 14 adult individuals (18+) for a special gathering for therapists like you.

This retreat is not limited based on gender or orientation.

I love introducing people to the low country. It is a beautiful place that will stick with you for a while. I lived in nearby Savannah from 2008- 2012 and obtained my LPC in Georgia originally, before transferring it to Texas. I am looking forward to having the time to get comfortable and lean into the”hiatus”. I look forward to being on Tybee Island, & having it as the backdrop for our work. The laid back vibe there sets a tone for being grounded & without pretense. The environment allows for disconnection from the hustle & expectations of the world.

Jenn is an outdoor cat, and is secretly hoping this event makes you all feral and ungovernable too.
